Job Summary
 
The Farmer Field School (FFS) Specialist will lead and facilitate the implementation of Farmer Field School program aimed at empowering farmers through experiential learning and participatory approaches. The FFS Specialist will work closely with farmers and agricultural extension teams to provide technical support, training, and guidance in climate resilience and sustainable agriculture practices, crop management, natural resourceconservation, and community development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, plan, and develop Farmer Field School programs in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, considering the specific needs and context of the target farming communities.
  • Promote Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices and technologies through FFS training program for farmers understanding and knowledge enhancement and adaptation.
  • Conduct training sessions and facilitate Farmer Field School meetings to promote knowledge sharing, peer learning, and hands-on training in sustainable agricultural practices. Utilize participatory methodologies to engage farmers in the learning process.
  • Develop and adapt training materials, modules, and learning resources for Farmer Field Schools, incorporating topics such as crop cultivation, pest management, soil conservation, water efficiency, climate adaptation, and gender equality in agriculture.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and support to farmers in the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices and integrated pest management approaches. Assist farmers in problem-solving and decision-making related to crop production and management.
  • Establish a system for monitoring and evaluating the impact of the Farmer Field School programs. Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of the training and identify areas for improvement.
  • Work closely with social mobilizers and hire master trainers, local farmers and extension agents to mobilize farmer groups and promote their active participation in Farmer Field School activities.
  • Ensure that the Farmer Field School programs promote gender equity and social inclusivity by actively involving women, youth, and marginalized groups in all aspects of the training and decision-making processes.
  • Prepare regular progress reports, success stories, and case studies to showcase the impact of the Farmer Field School programs.
  • Any other task to be assigned by the Client or ADB in line with the TORs of this assignment and the overall objectives of the project.
Qualification and Experience
  • Preferably Post graduate degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Science, natural science or equivalent qualification in a similar field.
  • Preferably Seven years of relevant experience in articipatory Extension and Research (FFS), Resilient farming systems and crops, vegetables.  
  • Previous experience is establishing FFS, CBOs participatory extension approaches. for former community.
  • The expert having experience of being a part of the similar project in Pakistan, particularly the province of KP would be an advantage.

This role is subject to the award of project.
