The Integrated Plant Nutrient Management Specialist will be responsible for providing expert knowledge and technical support in developing and implementing comprehensive plant nutrient management strategies. The specialist will focus on promoting sustainable and efficient nutrient use practices to optimize crop yields, enhance soil health, and minimize environmental impacts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement integrated plant nutrient management training module tailored to specific agro-climatic conditions, crop types, and soil characteristics. The training modules should aim to achieve optimal nutrient levels for sustained crop productivity while minimizing nutrient losses.
• Liaise and coordinate with KPAD department to assess soil nutrient status of selected areas and determine nutrient deficiencies and excesses. Use soil analysis data to make informed decisions on appropriate fertilizer recommendations and soil amendments.
• Provide farmers and agricultural stakeholders with expert guidance on selecting suitable fertilizers and nutrient sources, considering crop nutrient requirements soil conditions and resources required.
• Advise on precise and efficient nutrient application techniques using 4R strategy and train the master trainers and farmers on adoption of improved technologies
• Explore and promote organic and sustainable nutrient management practices, including the use of organic fertilizers, green manure, compost, and cover crops to improve soil fertility and structure.
• Evaluate and optimize nutrient use efficiency to minimize nutrient losses and reduce the risk of environmental pollution, including nitrate leaching and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Advise on the latest advancements in plant nutrition and nutrient management technologies. Collaborate with research institutions and scientists to contribute to relevant research initiatives.
• Conduct training programs and workshops for farmers, extension agents, and project teams on judicious use of fertilizers and to enhance their understanding of integrated plant nutrient management practices.
• Any other task to be assigned by the Client or ADB in line with the TORs of this assignment and the overall objectives of the project.

Qualification and Experience

• Preferably Post-graduate degree in Soil Science, Crop Physiology, Crop Science or equivalent qualification in a similar field.
• Preferably 7 years relevant experience in integrated plant nutrient management, crop nutrition, and soil fertility enhancement Strong knowledge of different fertilizer types, their composition, and application methods. 4R fertilizer stewardship module development, delivery of training and capacity building.
• The expert having experience of being a part of the similar project in Pakistan, particularly the province of KP would be an advantage.
